Text Box: In 1992, as a young mother of a 3 year old moving to Northern Virginia, I began looking for the typical services my son was going to need. i.e. childcare, a pediatrician, fun indoor and outdoor activities, etc. Quickly frustrated with the difficulties of finding good resources, I decided to create a “list type” advertising directory of services for parents. It would be a concise, user friendly guide serving parent needs only. No big phonebook diluted by other services, not a “throw away” style tabloid that would be misplaced or confusing to follow……just a high quality, concise directory that parents would keep around, one that would help them easily find options for their children’s needs. Businesses agreed it was a good idea, and The Parent Pages was born!

The popularity of The Parent Pages NOVA grew. In 1995, we developed the Montgomery County/Washington DC edition. In spite of our respective state loyalties, the boundaries between Suburban MD/DC & NOVA started to merge… folks began “crossing over”. In 1998, we combined the two Parent Pages and now distribute one issue to the metro DC area throughout the year.

Next step….. www.theparentpages.com! That same year, I earned the Entrepreneur Business Award from the WDC Women’s Business Center for The Parent Pages. In 2004, The Parent Pages became a full color, glossy publication! Every year since, we have enhanced the source directory to ensure we provide the best family phonebook for metro DC.

15 years later, we’re busier than ever! My son is “all grown” now, and though I don’t personally need all the services in The Parent Pages, I am still excited about helping other young families navigate the complicated world as “Mom & Dad” in metro DC. Equally as rewarding is the opportunity to assist family-friendly businesses obtain their marketing goals.

In addition to work and my family, I enjoy running. I have completed the Marine Corps Marathon for charity 3 times! I regularly bike, hike and rock climb. I enjoy renovating houses; I recently renovated a 1970 shag carpeted, mustard applianced house that is now home to my son and me. I travel whenever time allows, and of course, cooking and entertaining in our new home is great fun too!

As well as keeping busy with all the experiences metro Washington DC offers, I plan to continue to improve The Parent Pages and keep parents informed of all the wonderful services available for children in our area. Save www.theparentpages.com to your “favorites” and keep the print issue handy!
